Acne Medications

Consider these tried-and-true treatment options in your acne battle plan.
Acne responds to various medications differently for different individuals. This means that over-the-counter drug that clears up your friend's pimples may have no effect on yours. But don't despair: There is a huge variety of acne treatments in the market. Experiment around and you will find the one that works for you. Be patient about it, though - it may take a month before you start to see results. Here are some acne treatments which many acne sufferers swear by:

Benzoyl peroxide

ACTION: Kills bacteria and unclogs pores.

CONCENTRATION: 2.5, 5 and 10.

DESCRIPTION: Benzoyl peroxide kills the P. acnes bacteria and reduces oil production. Bezoyl peroxide has a very small molecular structure so it is able to penetrate into the follicle and release hydrogen peroxide which destroys the pimple-causing bacteria. Spread a thin layer of gel over the entire area instead of just dabbing on the individual spots -- this prevents the acne from spreading. Benzoyl peroxide can cause side-effects such as redness, irritation, dryness and peeling, so it is best to begin treatment with the lowest concentration then work your way up.
