5. Go for 10-minute workouts

Staying active helps cut your heart attack risk by lowering blood pressure as well as discouraging the formation of dangerous blood clots.

Even if you don't have time for a 30-minute workout three times a week, breaking it down into three 10-minute sessions can be just as beneficial for your heart.

"The 10 minutes during the day can be a brisk walk to work, or the last part of your trip to work, a brisk walk at lunch time, and a moderately vigorous bike ride at the end of the day," suggests Richard A. Stein, M.D., author of Outliving Heart Diease.
