2. Eat a 40-30-30 diet

Research from the Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine found that if your protein intake equates to more than 30% of your daily diet, your chances of getting pregnant can be greatly reduced. Women who consumed more protein from animal sources were also more likely to experience ovulation-related problems compared to those whose protein intake came predominantly from non-animal sources like soybeans, tofu and beans. Fast-releasing carbohydrates (like white rice, potatoes and breakfast cereals) have also been found to have a big knock-on effect on the levels of the insulin hormone.

Fertility tip: For a balanced diet, follow the 40-30-30 rule: Aim for 40% of your calorie intake from carbs, 30% from protein and 30% from healthy fats. For your carbs, choosing "slow" carbs (like brown rice, pasta and brown bread) that aren't digested very quickly and are packed with fiber is your best option for improving fertility.
